We took the district student learning objective today. If students were absent, they will need to come before or after school to make it up.
We took a few more minutes to work on our time capsule writes.
We began a mini-biography project that gives information about ourselves. It's a pretty simple project as far as information goes, so the majority of this grade will be based on quality work.
We did our first Word of the Day starter. These do not need to be made up when students are absent, but need to be done each time a student is present in class.
We then talked about the 8th grade weekly writing assignment that we call Time Capsules. We do a 300 word writing about an assigned topic. I will save these to the end of the year and we will compile them into a time capsule that students can keep and open after they graduate. The topics are fairly simple and students will get all of class time on Mondays to work on them.
Students got a chance to learn a little about me today. I will be sending a letter home concerning this, but I let the students know that I will be gone for a few weeks due to my daughter having open heart surgery on September 20. This will mean that I will not be in attendance for Student Led Conferences, but will be arranging for times to meet with any parents that would like to have a conference the week prior.
We also worked on putting together our class folders that will contain our reading assignments, class goals, and returned, graded work. We discussed class procedures and went over this website. We also talked about our reading assignment for the year. We will discuss book projects next week.

First day of class! We talked about our new school-wide rewards and consequences. We also read a book titled, "Only One You," and talked about how we are all unique and awesome. Then, we made fish that will be hung up in the classroom all year so that Mrs. Reid can keep a piece of her students with her all year. =)
